Where cameras belong in a dental office — and where they never go

Entrances, the front desk, hallways and the rack. Never operatories, restrooms or private offices.

Security cameras protect the practice after hours and settle disputes at the front desk. Placed carelessly, they create privacy problems that outweigh the benefit.

Good locations

  • Every exterior door, inside and out
  • Front desk and check-out, aimed at the counter, not screens
  • Main corridors
  • The rack room and any medication storage

Never

  • Operatories or any space where treatment happens
  • Restrooms
  • Private offices and break rooms

Our plans draw each camera’s field of view against the real walls, so you can see what it records before it goes up. Avoid pointing cameras at monitors that show patient information.

This is general planning guidance, not legal advice. Check your state’s recording and signage rules.
