Cellular failover: the cheapest insurance a practice can buy

When the main line drops, claims, phones and card payments stop. A cellular backup switches over in seconds.

Construction crews cut fiber. Storms knock out cable. When the internet goes down on a full schedule day, the front desk can’t verify insurance, take a card or answer a VoIP call.

How failover works

The gateway watches the primary line. When it stops responding, traffic moves to a cellular modem in seconds and moves back when the primary recovers. Staff usually don’t notice.

  • Keeps phones, claims and payments running
  • Costs a small monthly data plan
  • Takes one rack unit and one power outlet
Place the cellular antenna where signal is strongest, often high on an exterior wall, not inside a metal rack.
